Recently, after trying to start the tractor I noted the starter ran on after I released the key from the start position. Subject: Re: 4020 John Deere info wanted. The early 4020 diesels came out of the factory with a goofy 24 volt positive ground system. It can be hard for the average person to work on. Some have been converted to 12 volt negative ground that is a lot simpler and easier to diagnose electrical problems on.

The first is that there is a rattling noise that starts shortly after the engine is started and it never quits. I have had this tractor for 4 years and it hasn"t gotton any worse or better.
