The second film introduces the queen, and the colonial marines, and a terraforming colony, and all kinds of tropes that have been endlessly recycled in Alien media ever since. The third movie took the characters we were left with from Aliens, killed them offscreen, and then rehashed the first movie in a new setting.For the Special/Extended edition the studio professionally remastered the footage, re-recorded the audio, and re-edited it into the film so its indistinguishable from the original footage. I can't imagine that HBO would show the rough draft version. TLDR; watch the extended version. r/LV426 • In honor of today being Alien: Isolation's 9th birthday, I want to encourage all of you to play it (pancake is fine but VR is the greatest experience I've had w/ any game/film, etc), because it's still beautiful. And the story is canon and I will always hope to eventually see a screen version of it.

The 6 films, Prometheus, Covenant, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Resurrection are all considered canon as are all the different versions of the first 4 films. Alien Isolation is 100% canon too. Colonial Marines was once considered canon by Fox but I believe that is no longer the case.
