The date code is a four digit code (1354) so it's a replacement carb from what I've researched and the "4" is the year of manufacture. For a correct carb date, you need to look for 3 digit that start with a 5. So if your car's birthday for instance March 2nd, 1965 then you want a carb dated 531 (5=1965, 3=March, & 1=1st week) or earlier. If you are concerned with NCRS then you look for something up to 6 month earlier than the build date is normally acceptable.
