One of our members had an intermittent starting problem with his 4.3 RAV which was puzzling but it finally was determined that the problem was the starter motor itself. His OEM battery had cracked and leaked electrolyte onto it, causing corrosion.My wife has recently purchased a 2000 Rav4 3 Door 2 litre. The car was bought as a non-runner with the intention of getting it going and using it as a runaround. The engine turns over but does not start. The fuel pump does not appear to be working with the ignition switched on, and there is no spark at the HT leads while cranking.Then try squeezing fuel-line while cranking the engine. Should notice a lot of difference. The turn signal may not be the problem, it may have just been enough added load to the dying battery, to shut off the electronics. Or it could be a ground problem as the Rav4 is known to have a weak ground system.

Yes the CPS if it totally fails or becomes disconnected it will not tell the fuel pump to send fuel. The RAV4.1 fuel pump is only engaged when the engine is turning over. You won't hear it run just by turning the the key to the on position.
