I had the same problem. IMR Blue powder, 2 1/2 shell, 16 gauge. I develped my load by downloading all the 12 and 16 gauge data using IMR Blue into a spreadsheet. Then determined the powder to shot ratio to determine low and high powder chsrge. Loaded a few starting at the low end, and found good performance right in the middle ratio.

Using too light a payload can result in not enough pressure for complete powder burn. Subbing a 7/8 oz. slug for 1 1/8 oz. birdshot load may not work well depending on the powder used.

For up to 1-1/8 ounce 12 gauge loads you have many choices. I have used Titewad, e3, and clays with good results up to 1250 fps with 1-1/8 ounce loadings. Longshot is also good for higher performance loads. I have used unique and red dot too. Good powders but the Hodgdon offerings work better for me. Hope this helps-John
