The first thing you run across is data, and the ship for that is the Botany Bay.

The faction miners are much more for the longer game. As others have said, they have great base cargo for raiding, and at higher levels have much better warp range to get you into dark space for 4* materials. But they are really expensive. I would suggest choosing your first faction miner based on your choices of lvl 32 and 34 ships.
