On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. Evidently I was shifting at way too high rpm even tho the motor was not sounding like it. A little rich is normal on these. They have to be by design. Plug fouling is just part of owning a Vulcan 800, and it's way worse if you make short trips or you're just starting the engine to let it run a little then turning it off. The plugs never get hot enough to burn off the carbon and they just foul. That is normal even on a bone stock VN800.

2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 engine noise. Try taking the video outside so it isn't picking up reverb and echo. If it sounds that bad outside, no it isn't normal. That sounds like bad exhaust leak or a straight up rod knock. The rockers aren't adjustable, the lash is set by shims and they get tighter over time.

But stuff like the way the rear brakes connect, or the way the regulator (the thing under the radiator) is bolted to the frame. New to the forum and needing some advice. I recently purchased a 99 Vulcan 800 Classic for the wife. The problem I am having is that on cold start it stalls as soon as soon as you put it in 1st gear and the bike starts moving. It usually takes several attempts at revving really high on the throttle to finally get it going so that it doesn't stall.No problem on the post. The only thing that is problematic with the Vulcan 800's are the blinker fluid reservoirs. I can't seem to find where it is on mine and I'm worried that one day my blinkers are gonna stop blinking!! Realistically, I've only had problems with the gas tank equalizer line. It's the air line that let's oxygen into the tank as gas goes out of the tank.
