For a first time visitor I'd always suggest the hotel/casino option to get that Las Vegas experience which you would get at Planet Hollywood although I think Vdara is a better property. Vdara has comforts of a modern home, with microwave, kitchen/ette, and fridge. NoMad provided us with a comfortable stay, although newer and much less amount of units, it is not as modernized as Vdara. Still, it has new furniture smell and private entrance. Decor reminds me of a NYC or Boston apartment.
I greatly enjoyed my recent 3-night stay at Vdara. I had a King Suite on the 17th floor with a view of the Aria across the street and the pool below. The room (s) was clean and very spacious, featuring a truly separate bedroom and full bath, as well as a sizeable sitting area, a kitchenette/dinning area, and powder room.

We chose the Vdara primarily because it doesn't have a casino and it is nonsmoking. It is a beautiful and comfortable hotel, and the rooms are large. It is quiet and has kitchen facilities. It is very nice to be able to have snacks, soft drinks, and breakfast foods in the room.
Re: parking fees at vdara. This place isn't on most people's radar because it doesn't have a casino and it's located in the North Strip Dead Casino Zone. But the Hilton Grand Vacations North Strip charges $13 for valet parking and $8 for regular parking. But it's free (I think) if you have enough Hilton Points. 8.
