It's easy to change, and besides the fact I rode the bike to warm it up for the engine oil and filter change, my hands are already dirty anyway. Once a new guy only put one on there and I told him there's two drain plugs. They recommend no more than two oil changes before replacing the washers but for 50 cents I'll replace them every time.

The owners manual for the 1300C suggests replacing coolant at 24K. I took the advice of other members on this board and downloaded the service manual. You might consider that as well. Don't let removing the tank worry you. Go to Bareass Choppers Tech pages for step-by-step instructions.

I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive. I looked at the service manual, and all it shows is change the final drive oil every 24,000 miles. Once out, dump the old fork oil and then use 1/4 of a can of automatic transmission fluid to flush each fork. Pour in the 1/4 can, pump the fork from full up to full down 10 times, and dump out the ATF. Repeat with a second 1/4 can. Do the same on the other fork thus using an entire can of ATF.
